Blitz Review: "Restless" (2011)

Restless is an amusing specimen in that it is a drama that speaks of seizing the moments and opportunities in what short lives we have and the value of life, and drives the themes with the ferocity and enthusiasm of a three-toed sloth. While the film is not devoid of life, the tone is so tame that it is lukewarm enough to keep us enticed of the lover's relationship, but any tension is immediately pulled when the inevitability that is Annabel's (Mia Wasikowska) demise to cancer is already out and in the clear by the middle of the first act, the rest of the film plays out at such a mellow pace that it certainly seems to be on auto-pilot. It's harmless overall enough to warrant a rental, if you prefer something more vanilla than A Walk to Remember.

"Restless" stars Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper, released by Sony Pictures Classics, now on DVD.
