Marvel's 'The Avengers' -- Film Review

It's been a long time coming, and the moment is finally here, in all it's glory. Simply put, if this is not the best film experience in recent movie-going experience, then it's for sure the best superhero film experience in recent memory, if not for all time. Why yes: it's that damn good. Suck on this, Michael Bay - this is entertainment.

For what was at stake, somewhere down the line, Marvel must have known that in for a high concept such as this to stick, it needed a tour de force with all pistons firing for Avengers to work, not just as a merchandising gold mine that the whole Avengers initiative could have easily become. And for the most part, the road that brought us to this moment was, overall, pretty good. Some hot, and some, that were good in their own way, and luckily no casualties to fall into the "god-awful" end of the enjoyment spectrum. Not only did the man who would undertake the job as writer/director of this gambit of a film combine all these heroes into a single film, but has done so with so much gusto and charm that the film excels in it's own limelight. Every member from Iron Man to Agent Coulsen feels like a living, breathing cell of the experience, and without sacrificing often what is missing in team-up films - enduring and relatable characters, with real issues, real conflicts, and arguably the most memorable of the these folks being a green-skinned behemoth that flails aliens about like a rag-doll. Serious props go to director Joss Whedon.

Of course, still a superhero film in it's simplest form, action is aplenty in The Avengers and delivers well. Never does the film slip into a monotonous pace and keeps the pressure on the heroes and the audience at the edge of their seats without risking the oft bombastic circus of post-Transformers Hollywood style getting out of control - with shots and choreography fluid and easy, and most of all, enjoyable to watch.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
An excellent example of having your cake and eating it, Marvel's The Avengers is a must-see list  and worth every penny of the admission ticket.
